4 Ways To Grow Your Business and Your Self Image

grow-business-grow-selfIf you are not comfortable with yourself, you cannot be comfortable with others! If you do not believe in yourself, you will sabotage relationships.

John Maxwell teaches in “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” a concept called the Law of the Lid. It simply states, “Leadership ability determines a person’s level of effectiveness.” Here is what that means: no matter how hard you work, or how big you dream, you can only go so far professionally if you are a poor leader, or if you have a poor self-image.

When it comes to relationships, self-image works in a similar way – it is the Relational Lid.Your image of yourself restricts your ability to build healthy relationships. It also restricts you ability to build a successful business. Simply stated, a negative self-image will keep a person from being successful! Even if a person with a negative self-image does somehow achieve success, it will not last because he will eventually bring himself down to the level of his own expectations.

Dr Phil McGraw says, “I always say that the most important relationship you will ever have is with yourself. You’ve got to be your own best friend first.” How can you be “best friends” with someone you do not even know or like? The answer is simple – you cannot! That’s why it is so important to find out who you are and work to become someone you like and respect.

We are taught in Scripture to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” How are we to love our neighbor? Answer: as we love ourselves! Now, don’t be thrown by this concept of self-love.  To love simply means to “bring to maturity.” It means to provide and care, to nourish and cherish, to bring to maturity.

Luke 2:52 tells us that Jesus was brought to maturity in four areas: “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” If you truly love yourself, you will bring yourself to maturity in these four ways: in wisdom – mentally; in stature – physically; in favor with God – spiritually; in favor with man – socially.

Therefore, here are the four ways to grow your self-image, thus growing your business! If you want to be successful, you must grow in these four areas:

  1. Intellect – Do you read books, do crossword puzzles, learn new things, study to improve your knowledge and develop yourself personally and keep your mind strong?
  2. Physical – Do you have a healthy lifestyle – regular exercise, eat healthy – to live as long as you can?
  3. Spiritual – Do you make time to study and grow spiritually?
  4. Social – Are you intentional with your social time? This includes who you spend your time with, as well as the things you spend your personal time doing.

The late Jim Rohn said, “Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become.”
